Robyn Ward Lane

Pharmacy Assistant Robyn Ward honoured for 30 years of service with a Fortitude Valley Lane named in her honour.

Cr David Hinchliffe unveiled the first Valley Lane Name "Robyn Ward Lane” and Plaque at 257 Brunswick Street Fortitude Valley on Wednesday 4th August, 2010. The lane sits next to Delahunty's Cost-Less Chemist near the corner of Brunswick and Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley.

The laneway is named after a "living and working Valley legend”, Robyn Ward, who for over 30 years still works as a Senior Pharmacist Assistant to James Delahunty's Valley Chemist. During this time Robyn Ward's strong personality and common sense approach to life has provided much needed advice and counselling to Valley residents from all walks of life. She is immensely respected and is a personality in her own right she calls a spade a spade and offers a smiling friendly face to those in need.

Robyn was happy, honoured and surprised when informed that a laneway had been named after her as a thank you for her dedication and pharmacy service. Robyn celebrated with family, friends, colleagues and pharmacy customers at a morning tea held in her honour after the official naming.

The ‘Valley Corner” of Brunswick and Wickham Street has a strong pharmacy background. A pharmacy site since 1895 when Bell & Crease Chemists first opened was then taken over by the first radio chemist – Chemist Roush who then sold onto the first discount chemist – Carl David. Delahunty's purchased the Chemist in 1979 moving the pharmacy to its current location in 1988. The Delahunty's purchase of the Brunswick Street Building where the chemist is located led to the restoration of the building to its original glory.
