Nudgee 1st XV 1962- GPS 3rd XV 1962

Nudgee College 1st XV 1962

Being a "beefy" young guy, I was the most important man on the team. I.e. the tighthead prop who was responsible for winning scrums. So I played in the top sides all the way through my school rugby career. In particular, U/15 A' finished undefeated in 1960 with only 6 points against us from 2 penalty quicks. It was the greatest feeling in my life at that time. The trials for selection were one of the toughest matches I have ever played as I ended up scratched and covered in blood. One of my mates actually kissed me who later became captain of Nudgee - much to his later shame. One notable incident in preparation for 1962, I was training by myself on the "muddy flats" when the top players decided I was getting too earnest and decided to throw me into the creek. Huge struggle but I took six of them with me!
