Brothers Rugby Union Club (U/19 1963 QLD)
We won the 1st Australian Under 19 competition in Adelaide. I am the hunk with the dark glasses.
We traveled on a DC3 and arrived in Adelaide to find that the hotels did not open on a Sunday but the boys were able to obtain a wooden keg that kept them happy. The competition was tough. The Western Australian being manly from sons of Wales all had black welsh hats which we made it our business to obtain by fair or foul means! The boys also helped open a new winery- Yeldarra and had to be carried back on the bus by non-drinkers like me! I made some wonderful friends for life after this groundbreaking Rugby Championships.
I always appreciated my old teacher and great Rugby tragic John Wagner for his perceptive realization that I was the future star tight head prop.
Under 19 trial match that made the Courier-Mail.
At Brothers we were coached by Jim Kenny who's passion made us into a tight-knit team that was unfortunately beaten in the semifinals for the Premiership. I used to pick up Epi Bola for training. He later became a famous Queensland Captain.
